Our office ensures the integrity, accuracy & security of these essential records in compliance with New Jersey state laws.

Marriage License Application Process

Couples applying for a marriage license in Fairview must:

  1. Complete an application and schedule an appointment. (Download PDF Marriage Application)
  2. Provide valid identification and proof of residency.
  3. Have a witness (18 years or older) present.
  4. Pay the required application fee.
  5. Observe the 72-hour waiting period before the license is issued.

Obtaining a Marriage or Civil Union License

  1. One Applicant must be a resident of Fairview and provide proof of residency
  2. Both Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  3. Proof of Identity by presenting your Birth Certificate, Driver's License, Passport or State/Federal ID
  4. Your Social Security Card or Social Security Number.*
  5. A witness, 18 years of age or older.
  6. The $28 application fee (Cash or Check made payable to the Borough of Fairview)
  7. If you are divorced, have had a previous civil union dissolved, domestic partnership terminated or have had a civil union annulled, provide the name of your former spouse, the date of the marriage was dissolved and the location of the divorce.
  8. If your former spouse/civil union or domestic partner is deceased, provide the name of decedent, date and location of death.
  9. Social Security number is required by law for US Citizens and will be kept confidential.
  10. Any documents in a former language must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

There is a 72 hour waiting period (3 days) to process the application. After the waiting period, you will return to the Registrar to pick up your license.

Within 5 days after the ceremony, your Marriage/Civil Union Certificate must be sent to the Borough that your ceremony took place in.

What Do I Need to Obtain a Certified Copy of a Vital Statistics Record

Be sure to contact the Municipality where the event took place

  1. Applications for a certified copy of a Non-Genealogical record require the applicant to provide a completed application (Download PDF Application)
  2. Valid proof of identity (see below)
  3. Payment of the fee
  4. Proof that establishes you are:
    • The subject of the record
    • The subject’s parent, legal guardian or legal representative
    • The subject’s spouse/civil union partner, domestic partner, child, grandchild or sibling, if of legal age
    • A state or federal agency for official purposes; or
    • Requesting pursuant to a court order

Valid proof of identity:

  • Valid photo driver’s license or photo non-driver’s license with current address OR valid driver’s license without photo and an alternate form of ID with current address OR two (2) alternate forms of ID, one of which must show the current address.
  • Alternate forms of ID are: vehicle registration, vehicle insurance card, voter registration, US/foreign passport, permanent resident card (green card), immigrant Visa, Federal/State ID, county ID, school ID, utility bill or bank statement (within last 90 days) or W-2 for current or previous year
